So he never scores for Bayern? :?

It's not that he never scores with Bayern, but his goals with the national team seem to serve him as a 'get out of Jail card' for the small burtsts of effort that he puts in - especially that WC Final goal

Ribery lacks the spark from his best days, but he's still very skilled and doesn't lose the ball often unlike a certain Mario. His place has always been on the wings, but after all his injuries and keeping in mind that he's turning 33 in a few days I wouldn't rule out him moving to central positions next year.

As some of you said, first it was Van Gaal who wanted him to be the number #10 in a 4-4-2 diamond formation (something that wasn't possible because he spent most of the first half of the season injured) and then it was Pep and it didn't work well at all, but now the situation is completely different and we have Costa and Coman.

Thiago
Vidal

Ribery

That's how rock bottom centrally Ribery is. He said himself that he dislikes that position, so...

Van Gaal wanted, but Ribery didnt want to play there, so Van Gaal tried with Schweinsteiger as # 10, but also didnt work. Tough to see Ribery accepting a new role at this time of his career.

Actually, that's why he should consider that change. A lot of attacking players change their position as they get older because they lose stamina but they earn other qualities such as experience and reading the game.

Ballack went from an attacking midfielder to a CDM. Something similar with Lampard and many other players.

If he just wants to play LW he might not be playing too many minutes next year. But if he accepts a different role that could change.

Matthaus went even from AM to CM to DM to Libero to CB as he got older.

Ribéry's not fast enough for that position anymore. He barely gets past a defender with his dribbles anymore.
His vision, technique and passing is still amazing. He would probably do a way better job in the center now.
But when you drag him away from the left side he'll probably start crying.

I counted 3 succesful dribbles.
Do you also have a video of the ~20 unsuccesful ones?

Nah, I counted a bunch of crosses and three defenders assigned to covering him. The bastard! He can't get past three defenders?

The Ribéry I know from his prime goes past the defender and THEN delivers a perfect cross.
The Ribéry of today tries to go past a defender and crosses midway through. I'm sure you'll notice that when you re-watch that video.

I think that focusing on a player's performance and calling it dismal (or your choice of tea) is one of a visceral person. Take the example of calling Ribery no longer a good dribbler when in fact he tore their left flank apart during the first half of the game.

Can he still last 90 minutes? Not yet. Not really sure. But if you fail to recognize he was the only particular threat to their defense yesterday clearly there are other factors involved. Let's act like a hothead then and replace him. Would Costa for example be able to get past three defenders as shown on the video? I really don't think so.

So the fact is instead of acting out of your liver one should analyze the situation a bit further.

I was surprised Bernat was allowed to overlap yesterday so that tells me the team realized their "heavy defense" required support on the flanks. I also think Costa is not being particularly menacing without and end runner such as Coman on the right or against a good tall defense (having to resort to headers from Costa's high crosses.)

I don't think this is a matter of replacing Ribery who is clearly back in form but rather having the strikers closer to both posts instead of interceptions.

Anyhow someone who read the game better can provide a better opinion.
