Like I mentioned in the prediction thread, we'll win it, but probably concede a goal to Reus or someone. The defense is improving with Boateng on the pitch, but there's still a long way to go.
The ideal team

We should win this. No excuses. Soon we will have to play the Champions League qualifiers and we'd better hit a good run of form.

For some reason we usually struggle against these guys... we'd better start off the season well this time though.

I watched their transfers and they are more or less the same than last year. We should get a comfortable win.

If Robbery doesn't play it will be a different story but I guess at least Robben will be 100% fit.

Bayern should win but I hope we do not play like vs Braunschweig which looked at times like Van Gaal style, maybe because we scored early and the strategy was to knock the ball around and make them chase it. Monchengladbach in the last part of last season was very successful adopting a more direct attacking style (like Mainz, Hannover or Dortmund) and became very dangerous being patient on the back and launching counterattack raids, specially with Reus. If we go on to pass the ball too much before we go forward and push our centerbacks high on the field to support the ball rotation they are going to hurt us.
Our defensive midfielders need to set the rhythm and style of the game, so I hope once and for all Schweinsteiger increases the amount of passes he sends forward instead of backwards, the damage Van Gaal did to him with the possession style is incredible, he is shadow of the player he can be.
A more direct style going forward not only reduces the turnovers above the red zone but also benefits Bayern giving more space to Muller, that’s how he is effective for Loew.
Somehow I see Bayern so far playing more like Van Gaal than Heynckens. More possession in our own half-middle of the field than the successful mix between possessing and vertical game Leverkusen played last season, besides penetrating runs by Muller or Robben I like to see counters on the flanks with quick balls to the center to feed Kroos or Schweinsteiger shooting from the edge of the box, we have the players on the wings to do it again and again, then Gomez pulling the centerbacks with him, it will become a matter of the opponent not being able to figure out where to cover but if we string 10 passes before we create a chance most BL teams can defend that.

Both teams will be motivated for the first match -- but being at home for bayern and our better player match up no problem -- but don't discount gladbach too much. What I don't want to see is a repeat of last season where we struggled. Luckily we have fewer injuries going into the season this time.

We win! It is our first game in this season and 3 points from this game at least will be psyschological great to continue with hard work and our team to get better with Heynckes' philosophy.

We don't have van Gaal anymore to worry about this games.

I don't think so. In that game we took the lead very early and we knew that Brauncshweig's only hope was counter-attacks, so by increasing possession we kind of reduced their chance at setting up a counter-attack.

Heynckes knows how to adapt to certain tactics, and the current situation in the game, and that's great. I'm not saying that LVG doesn't know how to, because I think he is a very smart coach, however much I hated him at Bayern. But we have to admit that LVG never changed his strategy. He preferred changing players' positions to keep his strategy rather than adapt to the situation. Even when it comes to the attacking/defending thing, we usually attacked, and attacked, and even after going 2-0 or 3-0 up kept attacking and exposing our weak defense. Defending was an even bigger fiasco. For some reason when LVG decides to defend, he keeps defending until the end of the game even if a certain point it no longer makes sense. I am thinking of the game against Inter when they scored the 2-2. We did not seek to score another and end the game then. We kept defending. The moment I saw that I knew we were going out before Inter scored the third.

Can't wait till Sunday! I hope Bayern will take a win but I'm sure that Monchengladbach is extra-motivated because probably they think that Bayern defense is like a Swiss cheese and if Chelsea reserve team aka Hamburg had a chance in early tournament to win Bayern then they have also that chance. I think it's not true: we win and won't concede.
