I'm still not sure if it was Martinez's fault (he didn't jump straight up) or Schweinsteiger's (it passed closest to his head I believe)

In any case, it was a rookie mistake. They shouldn't need training to learn how to jump straight upwards and try to get their head to a ball. You learn these things with the U10s.

And you'll forget them if you never practice them thereafter. I know they don't practice freekicks, both Neuer and Alaba told the media earlier this year. Apparently because no one likes standing in the wall, according to Neuer.

No matter what sophisticated tactics you implement, you're gonna lose matches if you're useless at the most basic things.

with that add the inability to clear a dangerous ball from our penalty area and instead we keep on passing around to mantain possesion either until an opponent snatches it or then the player hurriedly passes back to Neuer who will take a careless shot which ends up at our opponents anyway.

I think by now even the grasskeeper at the Säbener Strasse knows these things but they remain like that !!!

But they can't really forget them that easily. It's not like there's one freekick every 100 games or so. Even if they're not training them, they're still standing in walls during matches. OK, Martinez hasn't been in a while, but seriously do you need a reminder to jump straight upwards instead of diagonally?

I mean OK some training wouldn't harm them, but I'd still expect better from them nonetheless.

It's not about theoretically knowing what to do and what not to do. You lose the automatisms if you don't practice it.

It was obvious they were already thinking about Barcelona. I think the underperforming was at least partly due to the "no more injuries" -mantra everybody keep repeating and they were simply being (over)cautious with their challenges. I don't think this match can be used as a measuring stick.
