I SHOULD be happy you were right and I was wrong... But I'm not... I fear we need a kick in the but, especially our coach, but he ain't getting it...

Said you could be champion at Bayern with your hands in your pockets - and that's exactly what he's trying to do...

Borussia Dortmund express regret after fans hurt in RB Leipzig violence [source]

It's all very well to be proud to support a Traditionsverein, but the hooliganism is shameful. The culprits are deceived if they think they are any better than the Leipzig fans.

I kind of feel sorry for the Leipzig fans. Yes they may have supported someone else before RB Leipzig appeared but it's good they now they have a local team to support (one not riddled with hooligans anyway, like the other Leipzig clubs who are rotting away somewhere in the amateur leagues).

To be honest, all this reeks of jealousy from the BVB fans. They can't stand it that someone with such a short history is performing better than their team. It took them what, 8 years, to build a bigger empire than theirs.

They were "jealous" long before this season... ;)
Also, Leipzig first have to do this for a few years...
And finally: I'm "jealous", too... I have a different understanding of this sport and the thing that is actually unique to German soccer will soon vanish and they are one if the biggest reasons...
(btw: not like Südkurve was very approving...)
Thanks for nothing, :pep: !!

Actually what "thing" about German football will vanish due to Leipzig?

Well, I think you'd agree that the Bundesliga has a unique set of fans?! That's nit something you buy, it grows...
Also, we have real clubs, where members actually have a say... Leipzig is nothing but a "franchise", just like in American sports: those who make the best offer (read: highest bid) can bring a team to Bundesliga! Great! Remember Unterhaching? THAT is soccer! And impossible today...

I don't like the way they do things but I can understand why local football fans (those that would rather watch football than fight) would support them. A survey of RB fans, with questions such as Who did you support before RB Leipzig? And Why don't you support Lok or Chemie? would be very interesting I think.

The only thing I dislike is what you said about the franchise. Fan culture is part of the German football atmosphere. There aren't any other good teams in the area so they'll get a lot of fans, and these will be more than capable of being great fans.

Not related but this morning I saw this tweet and it feels true. I don't watch American sports, but the half time show and the commercials are always given attention. I hope German football retains as much as possible of its character and stays away from this corporation/business stuff.

Well apart from Red Bull employees, I doubt Leipzig actually buy their fans, and these are German people like those in Bavaria or Bremen or wherever else, so the fan "culture" wouldn't be different.

The thing about the members having a say, I look at it in two ways: 1) Bayern obviously adopts the membership majority rule, and we're the biggest club in Germany so German football won't really change unless we do; or 2) So what if it turns to corporate ownership, in the grand scheme of things? Going by how absolutely shit Bundesliga clubs are including Dortmund, if this doesn't change the Bundesliga will turn into an Eredivisie style league where players only see German clubs as stepping stones.

I agree. I mean, the fan culture won't dissappear because 1 club goes in another direction. Start worrying when other clubs turn that way too...
