Hamburg playmaker Rafael van der Vaart has revealed that he is not interested in moving to Bayern Munich after he was once rejected by the Bavarian giants.
Bayern coach Ottmar Hitzfeld is desperate to fill the creative void left in his squad since Michael Ballack joined Chelsea and Van der Vaart’s name had been mentioned as a likely transfer target.
But the Dutch international has now stressed that he has no intention of moving to the Allianz-Arena over the summer.
Back in 2005, Van der Vaart was keen to leave Ajax and hold talks with Bayern, but a transfer failed to materialise.
“They didn’t want me back then and now I don’t want to join them,” the 24-year-old told Sportbild.
“I was told that I wasn’t good enough and this judgement had a lasting effect on me. It certainly wasn’t nice for me,” he explained.
Rather than joining Bayern Munich, Van der Vaart signed for league rivals Hamburg in a €5.1million (£3.5m) move and has proved himself as one of the best playmakers in the Bundesliga.
