Interesting statistics, Duncan, however it's a bit hard to compare them in that way because the players around these 3 players you mentioned are different. But you're right, a star player would stand out. I don't think VdV is the ideal player for us.

I´d trade him for Schweini without a thought....throw in santa cruz in the deal...and pay them some money

Of couse we need a player in the middle of the pitch that is creative and can create scoring opportunities which is wwhat we have needed all season and that Shittgard game proves it because we SUCKED big time and didnt even get a scoring chance on the keeper

To support my pessimism
We won't get him because
1 Bayern does not qualify for the europe's most premier competition.
2 Our finances are inferior to those of spain and itlay to satisfy him better
3 VDV enjoys captaincy and stardom in hamburg

i would be more optimistic:
1.we have young players and if we sign good players we will be in CL next year.
2.i don't think he will leave to a spain or italy club (almost this year). if he leaves now he will go to bayern (i'm from spain and he isn't in barça plans, perhaps madrid, but no, 90% sure).
3.hamburg won't play any european competition next year. in two years maybe but he knows that if hamburg don't change a lot he won't be a supercrack. in germany only can give this chance bayern; no schalke, no bremen and no hamburg.
his manager is a hoeness' friend and we could have an small opotunity.
if we sell hargreaves we will have almost 25M +40M more or less (they said 50 and we signed sosa and schlaudraff). what will we do with this money?
we can get vdvaart for 20M, klose for 15-20M, jansen for 8-10 and if hargreaves and pizarro leave i would sign another player like kehl, mavuba, bodmer...

That's much too simple there are more things wrong than just the obvious. Nonetheless vdV is not the perfect choice for solving creativity problems. I've said this numerous times he is not a playmaker and his stats proof that to me (8 assists in two years for Hamburg; Diego already made 12 in one year)

VDV may not be the solution to our problems...

I like the name Diego...and RIQUELME along with some names on the wings...

VDV is far more consistent than that ˝star˝ of ours ....and hes more talented.
