Post subject: Artur Boruc Reply with quote

CELTIC goalkeeper Artur Boruc has become a shock target for Bayern Munich.

The German giants have been looking to bring in a high-profile shotstopper for some time because skipper Oliver Kahn is approaching the end of his career.

Goalkeeping coach Sepp Maier has put Pole Boruc at the top of his wanted list after seeing his stunning displays for the Hoops this season.

Maier has been searching the globe for a replacement and noted Hearts and Scotland man Craig Gordon and Middlesbrough ace Mark Schwarzer.

But Boruc again enhanced his reputation with superb displays against AC Milan at Parkhead and in the San Siro to fire him to the top of Bayern's wanted list.

Club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge's biggest challenge is to get boss Ottmar Hitzfeld to stay after the impact he has made there.

But the German legend will then start trying to bring in new blood to the Champions League quarterfinalists in the summer.

Bayern want a top-class midfielder to replace England star Owen Hargreaves, who looks set to move to Manchester United.

But 27-year-old Boruc will also be a wanted man across the continent and it is no surprise that the biggest clubs have him in mind.

Hoops boss Gordon Strachan has seen him become one of Britain's best since his move from Legia Warsaw in August 2005.

The Pole is under contract until summer 2009 and only a huge offer would tempt the Parkhead money men to sell their prized possession.

Celtic know the player's agent Radoslaw Osuch would not drive a move or seek improved terms for his client in the near future. That might see Bayern switch their sights to Gordon or Schwarzer.

Get Mark Schwarzer I say - he is a pretty consistent keeper. But the main reason he should goto Bayern is to get an Aussie contingent started there - so I can make my shock entrance to professional football at age 23. Me and Mark go way back.

i'd love to see a polish player play for Bayern... Very Happy he's a very good keeper too, young, and has loads of potential to himself. not that it matters, but he's a very nice, grounded person as well.

I agree. I think Michael should get a chance and buy one goalkeeper. I have to say it but I wouldn't mind if Bayern can buy Adler from Bayer. He's good.

But again Boruc is for most the best goalie in Europe for now...maybe it will be wise to buy him ..

I know that but I suggested Adler because he has been playing textbook perfect and he has a bright future ahead of him. Folks have not been able to stop talking about him because of his play. Perhaps in the future Bayern will be interested in him? Then again, they might already be looking at him secretly. His play has drawn attention to him.

I think Rensing is still a bit young for the no.1 goalie shirt. He is only 22, I think Bayern is right bringing in a new goalkeeper.

I agree that Adler is young so they wouldn't go after him now, but they should keep an eye on him because if he keeps playing as well as he has then I think they should or, at least, would go for him in the future.

I'm not saying that they should go for him right at this moment, I'm saying that they should keep an eye on him.

AC Milan and Bayern Munich target Artur Boruc doesn't want to leave Celtic.
He said: "I have a contract till 2009 and I don't want to leave Celtic. When there's an appropriate offer I will worry and think about it. For the moment we've just played in the Champions League and will see what effects it will bring.

"There are three or four teams in every league it is worth considering playing for. But I am waiting for what the future brings.

"If I am to fulfil my contract, I won't cry."

Villa target raid for keeper Boruc
Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill is reportedly lining up a £4million summer move for highly-rated Celtic goalkeeper Artur Boruc.

O'Neill has already raided his former club to sign Stiliyan Petrov and Shaun Maloney and now the Daily Record believes he is after the impressive Polish shot stopper.

It has been reported that Boruc has received an invitation from agent Tony McGill, who set up the Petrov and Maloney deals, to visit Villa Park and watch the team play.

Boruc is under contract at Parkhead until 2009 and could cost Villa £4million while there could also be competition from Bayern Munich, who have also been linked with Arsenal's Jens Lehmann.

Villa's current number one Thomas Sorensen has 14 months left on his contract and is yet to be offered a new deal.

BAYERN MUNICH are lining up a £10million summer bid for Celtic's Artur Boruc to replace Oliver Kahn.

The Polish keeper tops the German side's wanted list as they look to secure a successor to their current flamboyant first-choice, who is to retire at the end of this season.

Boruc has been in the reckoning since Jurgen Klinsmann was confirmed as the man who will take over as head coach from Ottmar Hitzfeld when the gaffer also quits at the end of this term.

Celtic are desperate to hang onto the fans' favourite and it will cost a fortune for interested clubs to take him away from Glasgow after Parkhead chief executive Peter Lawwell tied him to a new deal at the turn of the year. Cash, however, is no object to AC Milan, who have publicly admitted an interest, and Bayern are in the same bracket.

The Bundesliga leaders know they need a character of major mental strength as well as ability to fill the gaping void 39-year-old Kahn will leave and they see Boruc as someone who perfectly fits the bill.

Klinsmann, of course, knows first-hand about the Celtic player's ability after Boruc's outstanding performance for Poland against the manager's German international team at the 2006 World Cup and he has stayed in the incoming Bayern coach's mind ahead of his new job.

Unusually, Bayern sent former keeper Sepp Maier to Scotland to do their scouting on Aberdeen ahead of their UEFA Cup last-32 clash against last month.

The game in question was the match against Celtic in the Granite City and sources in Munich understand the reason for this is because German great Maier, who is Bayern's goalkeeping coach, wanted another look at Boruc in the flesh.

Kahn's departure will leave Bayern with a huge hole to fill and understudy Michael Rensing is not considered good enough, while youngster Thomas Kraft is too inexperienced.

Boruc is the man who is being coveted and, although club officials will make no official comment on any signing targets, Bayern's star striker Lukas Podolski has already made his feelings on the proposed move clear.

Although a German international Podolski was born in Poland and has spoken of the appeal of Boruc's arrival.

He said: "I would like very much that, after Kahn, we could have Boruc.

"I want him in the team because he is one of the best goalkeepers in Europe.

"I like to watch him, especially in the Champions League, because they do not show the Scottish league in Germany.

"Also, I would help him from the first day that he would stay at the club."

Milan, of course, are also keen and manager Carlo Ancelotti has already stated that he would like to have Boruc as a replacement at the San Siro for Brazilian Nelson Dida.

Celtic are likely to face a barrage of offers after this summer's European Championship Finals in Austria and Switzerland.

Lawwell and manager Gordon Strachan are well aware they do not have to sell their keeper but the money on offer is substantial and that will leave the club with a major dilemma when Milan and Bayern come calling.
