The Bayern camp exuded satisfaction after a narrow 2-1 success against VfL Wolfsburg, the Reds' second win in Ottmar Hitzfeld's second home game back in charge. "The three points were vital to keep us in touch at the top and get us started on reeling in our rivals," the head coach declared.

Ottmar Hitzfeld: "The three points were vital to keep us in touch at the top and get us started on reeling in our rivals. We had a couple of indecisive moments at the start, but Oliver Kahn twice saved us from going behind. We passed the ball better and went in search of a goal after that. Lucio organised the defence well and smothered any danger at the back. I'm delighted Andreas Görlitz now feels confident enough to tackle with everything he's got. He and Hasan Salihamidzic posed a constant threat down the right. Lukas Podolski was very courageous in taking the penalty. You can't take it for granted that a 21-year-old has the belief and conviction for that, so I was pleased with him, he repaid our faith. We thoroughly deserved the points, we had quite a few chances. We now have a week ahead of us to prepare for an important match in Berlin."

Lukas Podolski: "At the penalty, I just grabbed the ball. As no-one took it off me, I just told myself to bury it. We played well today. I wasn't as good against Real, I'm aware of that myself, but I gave a good account of myself today."

Mark van Bommel: "We're heading in the right direction. We'll be able to say whether it was a turning point a couple of weeks from now. We all gave it 100 percent and we controlled the play, apart from the first five and the last 15 minutes. We need to set off on a winning run now, and then we'll see what happens. There's still plenty to play for. What matters now is next week in Berlin, and then we face Madrid."

Andreas Görlitz: "We had plenty of chances, and we could have wrapped it up a lot earlier if we'd taken one or two more of them. They scored close to the end and we were in danger of giving away a win we thought we already had in the bag."

Klaus Augenthaler (Wolfsburg coach): "Our missed chances at the start of the match were a boost for Bayern. We started just kicking it long and we weren't aggressive enough. We went behind to a completely stupid penalty. We missed too many tackles, which is how the second goal came about. My players only woke up and realised they had a chance of coming away with something from Munich after we'd pulled one back. The body language before then told a different story."

Simon Jentzsch (Wolfsburg keeper): "We had four unmissable chances in the first half. Bayern would have been rattled if we'd scored. We believed in ourselves again after we'd scored, but it was too late."
