This is kind of a wacky idea that would probably never happen, but how about Klinsmann? He obviously knows how to get the most out of Poldi, Schweini and Lahm, I'm sure he could figure out how to get the others to work together too. I'd be interested to see if he could manage a whole season at a club. Of course he'll never leave sunny California for Munich, but I still think he might have what it takes. Mourinho would be nice too, he proved at Porto that he doesn't need the cash, but he proved that it helps at Chelsea. Bayern's somewhere in between the two, does Jose speak German?

First of all, welcome to the board FBCinNYC. Secondly, I think Klinsmann would be a good choice, but like you said he won't leave California. Also, there's a rumor going around that he has talked to one of the representatives of Australian football. Of course, it could have been simply a lunch and football was not discussed but no one really knows.

As for Mourinho, I don't think he knows German. However, with the looks that he gives to reporters and players, I'm sure he wouldn't have to say anything to get his point across.

To note that coaching at a club and at an international level is very different. First of all, you have a much smaller pool of players with a club, secondly training is of much greater importance, and thirdly you need to correctly identify which qualities are missing and which players to get with those qualities. Being a good coach at international level does not guarantee that one would be a good coach at club level. Klinsmann is unproven at club level, but then he surprised everyone with what he did, when he was unproven at international level.

Personally, I would rather not take risks and stick to the proven good club coaches.

I think he got that image of a big spender because of the owner of Chelsea who just handed him the checkbook and let him do what he wants. Unlike Chelsea, I think Mourinho didn't have all the cash to spend while he was at Porto.

IMO, Mourinho is a guy who wants total control on the team. He wants things his way and not what the boys in the office want. Personally, I think Bayern could use someone like that but I know they won't go for it.

Of course, Bayern could contact me and then all their problems will be solved. Had to add that in there to ligthen the mood.

Mourinho might raise interest in German football, but I can't see him leaving Chelsea this summer. I know there've been problems but I think it was just a glitch.

Bayern hopeful of convincing Hitzfeld to stay
Bayern Munich president Franz Beckenbauer said he was hopeful of convincing new coach Ottmar Hitzfeld to stay with the Bavarian giants next season.

The 58-year-old Hitzfeld swept into the Bayern hotseat until the end of the season after the sacking last Wednesday of Felix Magath after the 20-time champions slipped to fourth in the Bundesliga.

'It would be premature to get in contact with other coaches,' said Beckenbauer.

'First we're going to try again to get Ottmar to change his mind. He's just had two and a half years of rest. He could still stay one or two more years.'

Hitzfeld, won four titles with Bayern amd guided the club to the Champions League crown in 2001, before leaving in 2004.

Bayern Munich have denied reports that they could make a move for Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho in the summer.

There is speculation that Bayern have already contacted Mourinho’s advisor Jorge Mendes but this has been vehemently denied by the club’s managing director Uli Hoeness.

He told Bild: “I neither called Mourinho nor his adviser or contacted them in any way. If the adviser claims that I did, then he is lying. All these speculations are simply not true.”

Jose has charisma...He is always in the media with his silly yet funny quotes.

He will actually raise the profile of Bundesliga. No doubt about it.

Franz Beckenbauer is plotting to bring in the outspoken Bernd Schuster as Bayern Munich's next manager. (Bild)

Yeah, and he's now the personal favorite of Beckenbauer for the job of head coach next season. Schuster himself stated that Munich would be a dream come true, so maybe there is really something going on.. we ll have to wait and see what happens

Yup, underrated in my opinion. His lack of playing at international level during his prime means he lost out on a lot of votes. Same thing as Effenberg...

You have to remember that he was playing at a time where international football had far more importance than nowadays, so playing internationally meant everything.

i just seen the highlights of the game...and Hitzfeld as well.
Unlike Magath , the general was all over the pitch ..advising Mark Van Bommel and shouting on all of them.
He did a great job and he is an active coach unlike Magath.

In my personal opinion Ottmar Hitzfeld should stay . Just the fac that he denied to go to so many teams and also denied the national German team but though accepted Bayern means something.
We lived great moments with him and we will live again moments like 2001.
