Former Germany defender Markus Babbel plans to end his playing career in the summer at Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart and then become a coach. "I will probably quit in summer," Babbel told Friday's edition of the Bild daily.
Babbel won 51 caps for Germany, highlighted by the Euro 96 title.
He spent nine years of his club career, 1991-2000, at Bayern Munich, moved to England for spells at Liverpool and Blackburn Rovers before joining Stuttgart in 2004. He won the UEFA Cup with Munich and Liverpool, plus three Bundesliga titles and two German cups with Munich.
Babbel said he wants to obtain a coaching licence once he has quit playing.
"Sooner or later I want to become a Bundesliga coach and one day I want to make the Champions League," he told Bild.
