From Sky Sports News:
Bayern Munich captain Oliver Kahn says he may retire from football, should the club win this season's UEFA Champions League.
The 37-year-old, whose contract expires in 2008, is in line to hang up his gloves at the end of next season.
However, the former Germany number one may consider ending his playing career in May, should the Bavarians triumph again in Europe.
"If we were to win the Champions League this season, it's quite possible I'll retire on the spot," Kahn told German television.
"I want to try to quit at the top, I want to have the feeling of being at the peak.
"I definitely don't want to hang on to the point where people are saying: 'Send that old guy home'."
Bayern face a difficult task in trying to reach next May's final in Athens, with Spanish giants Real Madrid their opponents in the round of 16 in the New Year.

with all due respect, how's 37 an early retirement?? i know he's due to play until 2008, but still...
i do agree with Kahn on leaving the scene while at the very top of one's career. he's such an outstanding player, still, aging process catches up with everyone. therefore he better leaves when considered a good keeper. |

Keeper Kahn names retirement date
Bayern Munich keeper Oliver Kahn has announced he will retire from football when his contract expires in 2008. The 37-year-old, who won 86 caps, quit international football after last summer's World Cup finals but decided to play on at club level for two years.
"I will honour my deal until 2008 and after that it will be the right time, at 39, to call a halt and concentrate on something else," he said.
Kahn joined the Bavarian giants in 1994 and has played 516 times for the club.
During that time he has helped them to seven German league titles, five German Cups, the 2001 Champions league title and the 1996 UEFA Cup. |
