Kahn reached his 600th appearance with Bayern today in all competitions.

The only player that has more appearances than Kahn is former Bayern goalkeeper Sepp Maier with 621 games.

MUNICH, Germany (AP) -Bayern Munich goalkeeper and captain Oliver Kahn has been suspended for one game and fined by coach Ottmar Hitzfeld on "disciplinary grounds.''

Neither the club nor the goalkeeper gave the reason for his suspension.

"I am not so surprised,'' Kahn said. "I understand it. Discipline has to be the highest requirement.''

He was also fined ?25,000 (US$36,500).

Kahn will miss Saturday's game at Hertha Berlin, the last before the Bundesliga goes into its winter break.

Bayern leads the standings by two points but the team has been struggling in recent matches and played to a dull 0-0 draw against Duisburg on Saturday.

Kahn criticized some teammates in an interview published Monday in Kicker magazine, singling out Franck Ribery and Luca Toni.

The two are among Bayern's new signings and have had mediocre games recently after an impressive start.

Kahn said "two or three'' good games were not enough in Bayern, which he said, was not "Marseille or Fiorentina.''

Ribery arrived in Munich from Marseille and Toni's previous club was Fiorentina.

Defender Philipp Lahm declined to say what led to Kahn's suspension.

"It's something that happened in the locker room and I am not going to make it public,'' he said.

The 38-year-old Kahn is in his final season with Bayern before ending his career.

Kahn Calls For Toni Captaincy

Retiring Bayern Munich goalkeeper Oliver Kahn wants Luca Toni to replace him as the club’s captain next season, according to reports in Germany.

Kahn is set to hang up his gloves at the end of the season to bring the curtain down on a glittering career spanning 21 years, 14 of them spent at Bayern.

The 38-year-old is the current captain of the Bavarians, and the contest has begun to find a new armband-wearer next season.

According to reports in Germany, Kahn believes that Italian hitman Toni deserves to be named as the new skipper.

The 30-year-old only joined Bayern last summer from Fiorentina, however he has had a simply sensational first season at the club.
The towering frontman has scored a whopping 36 goals in all competitions, and is the top-scorer in the German Bundesliga.

Kahn believes that Toni sets a good example, commands the respect of the rest of his team-mates, while he also has a winning mentality, something Bayern have always possessed as a team over the past 40 years.

Has he gone mad Exclamation Confused No way Toni should be captain. Sagnol or Lucio should be captain but Toni?!? He is a goal getter but not a captain for a team. In my opinion he doesn't set a very good example to a team seeing how many times he falls without anyone touching him even though it is to Bayern's advantage but I dislike it. And to top it all his acting is the best! Razz

I think the fact that his Deutsche ist nicht so gut will keep him from being captain more than the diving. I actually think Klose dives more than Toni, if I'm honest.

Ok well maybe Toni dives more, he is Italian after all, but I think when Klose does it's more blatant.

If Toni dives more or less than Klose is not important.....but I think everyone agrees that Toni should not be captain.

Klose is generally a very honest guy. In fact, once when he was with Bremen, he fell in the box and the referee awarded a penalty to Bremen and he was arguing with the referee that he was NOT fouled.
