Santa Cruz agent hints at quick Blackburn deal

Postby charger256 on Thu Jul 26, 2007 11:11 am

Bayern Munich striker Roque Santa Cruz will join a new club by the end of the week and Premiership side Blackburn have made a formal offer to the player
Santa Cruz would appear to be the name in question and the player's agent Jan van Baal has confirmed that Rovers have made a concrete offer to the 25-year-old, with a view to securing his £4.5million signing from Bayern.

Rovers are not the only club in the running for Santa Cruz but van Baal ruled out the possibility of the Paraguayan remaining at Bayern.

"He will sign for a new club within two or three days. We are negotiating with three clubs in Europe," van Baal told
"There are two concrete offers, one from Blackburn and one from Southern Europe but he is keeping his options open."

Bayern president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge admitted he expects Santa Cruz to leave Bayern by the end of the week.

"I expect Roque to have left us by the weekend," Rummenigge told Premiere television.

"That is the reason he is not playing. Porto and a couple of English clubs are interested."

Roque Santa Cruz is surplus to requirements at the Allianz Arena, but might have expected to get a game against Stuttgart when Miroslav Klose was ruled out through illness during the warm-up.

Instead, Bayern coach Ottmar Hitzfeld selected 19-year-old rookie Sandro Wagner to lead the line, effectively sealing Santa Cruz's fate.

Blackburn and Manchester City are rumoured to be the clubs in question.

Santa Cruz has fallen down the pecking order in Ottmar Hitzfeld's squad and would probably be fourth-choice striker behind Luca Toni, Miroslav Klose and Lukas Podolski.

Rovers boss Mark Hughes is anxious to add to his strike force before the start of the new season and both Bayern Munich's £4.5m-rated hitman Santa Cruz and Everton's former England international Beattie have been mentioned as targets for the Ewood Park club.

Although there are thought to be other possibilities on the horizon, and talks are expected over the next few days, Alan Smith's future at Manchester United appears unclear and it is only a matter of time before he is also linked with a switch.

Williams told the Lancashire Telegraph: "We've stepped up the hunt this week and it's possible we might be able to do something.

"We are in more detailed discussions with various parties, but we haven't cracked it just yet."

Bayern Munich have confirmed Roque Santa Cruz is set to leave the club.

Blackburn and Manchester City, along with Portuguese champions Porto, are believed to be chasing the Paraguayan striker.

The 25-year-old has fallen down the pecking order in Ottmar Hitzfeld's squad and would probably be fourth-choice striker behind Luca Toni, Miroslav Klose and Lukas Podolski.

Bayern president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge admitted he expects Santa Cruz to leave Bayern by the end of the week.

Blackburn Rovers have won the race to sign Roque Santa Cruz from Bayern Munich.

The 25-year-old has agreed a four-year deal at Rovers and will make the move to Ewood Park on 1st August.

Blackburn have beaten off competition from the likes of Manchester, Porto and Espanyol to land the Paraguayan international in a £3.4million deal.

Bayern were willing to let Santa Cruz leave as the likes of Luca Toni, Miroslav Klose and Lukas Podolski were all ahead of him in Ottmar Hitzfeld's pecking order.

Santa Cruz's signature will provide a massive boost for Rovers boss Mark Hughes who has been keen to add to his striking options ahead of the new season.
