Post subject: Reaction to Bayern v Kaiserslautern Reply with quote

26.10.2006

Bayern are through to the last sixteen in the DFB German Cup following Wednesday evening's 1-0 victory at home to Kaiserslautern, a result which prompted satisfaction in the Munich camp, despite the fact "we didn't play particularly well," according to Uli Hoeneß.

"We're not on peak form at the moment, so that made winning and reaching the next round all the more important," declared goalscorer Andreas Ottl. Coach Felix Magath lamented his side's failure to capitalise on taking the lead, "because we could have made it into the next round more emphatically."

Reaction to Bayern v Kaiserslautern

Uli Hoeneß: "We didn't play particularly well, but the Cup's all about winning and making the next round. We're still chasing three trophies, so you go into a Cup tie looking for a result. You don't have to score five goals for that, although obviously I'd have preferred a more decisive scoreline. We're approaching the weeks when we'll find out the truth, so the result was important for our confidence and our form."

Felix Magath: "Kaiserslautern were good in the first half and we were poor. We failed to put them under pressure, and we created far too little in front of goal. We upped the pace in the second half, and fortunately we were rewarded with an early goal. But after that, we neglected to add a second, because we could have made it into the next round more emphatically. We had three or four situations on the break, and we should have made a great deal more of that. The crowd was unhappy, and so was I."

Andreas Ottl: "We're not on peak form at the moment, so that made winning and reaching the next round all the more important. We're not decisive enough in the last third, the final ball isn't finding the target, or we've been unlucky in front of goal. We'll work on these things, and all will be well."

Wolfgang Wolf (Lautern coach): "We made it as difficult as we could for them today, but Bayern gave nothing away at the back. I'd like to have kept them out a little longer in the second half, but we've let in a goal from a set play."

Florian Fromlowitz (Lautern keeper): "Playing in front of such a big crowd was a fantastic feeling, but we have to be disappointed at going out to such a stupid goal."
