"Bremen were worthy winners today," Bayern coach Felix Magath immediately acknowledged following his side's 3-1 reverse at the Weser stadium on Saturday afternoon, although the Reds boss lamented the fact that the defeat came down to "an own goal and a free-kick that should never have been given."
Reaction to Werder Bremen v Bayern
Felix Magath: "Bremen were worthy winners today. We had little to offer at the start, and only got into it after they went 2-0 up. We put our initial problems behind us and we gave ourselves a chance, and at the end of the day we've only lost to an own goal and a free-kick that should never have been given. It looks as though we have a problem with the weekend Bundesliga fixture after we've played a European game in midweek. We've done extremely well in Europe up to now, but we've got to be looking for Bundesliga points afterwards as well."
Willy Sagnol: "We created more chances than Bremen, but we were simply unlucky. That's football."
Thomas Schaaf (Werder coach): "Let me congratulate my team on the way they performed. We were always looking to get forward, we kept trying to play our game and create chances, and we made plenty of openings. We deserved the win today."
Torsten Frings (Werder): "We played very well today. It's still early doors, but provided we can keep it up, we have a decent chance of winning the league. That's certainly our target. We've proved we're top of the league by rights."
