Post subject: Magath gives his players the weekend off Reply with quote

06.10.2006

On Thursday afternoon Bayern coach Felix Magath still had his foot on the pedal, meaning his players had to keep going flat out. Speed and stamina training was on the agenda for those players not called up by their country, in the form of sprinting work across the whole pitch and from corner to corner. By the end Roy Makaay and his colleagues were visibly showing the signs of their exertions.

However, the Bayern players will have enough time over the next few days to recover from their hard work in training. Following Friday morning’s session Magath delighted his squad with the news that their next training appointment was not until 4 p.m. on Monday afternoon.

Makaay heads off home

So Roy Makaay flew off immediately after training to the Netherlands in order to celebrate his daughter’s birthday with the whole family. His compatriot Mark van Bommel will spend the weekend furnishing together with his wife and three children their newly occupied house in Grünwald, where the packing cases are piling up.

Oliver Kahn will spend his leisure time in Paris. Julio dos Santos and Roque Santa Cruz will also appreciate the free time, having requested to be release from Paraguay’s exhausting trip to play an international in Australia.

Paraguayans turn down Australia trip

“We would arrive there in the morning and have to play a few hours later, and then fly back again soon after the match, Dos Santos told fcbayern.de. Roque added: “The journey was simply too long.

For the Paraguayans and all the others who will still be in Munich at the weekend, the weather forecast for the next few days is rain on Saturday and partly cloudy on Sunday, with temperatures up to 15C.
