Post subject: Reaction to Wolfsburg v Bayern Reply with quote

30.09.2006

Three days after a gala 2-0 victory in Milan, Bayern came tumbling back to earth with a 1-0 defeat away to the Bundesliga's bottom club VfL Wolfsburg. "We always knew it would be tough, but we were still expecting a different outcome," coach Felix Magath reflected afterwards. Captain Oliver Kahn was in pensive mood: "Straight after the match in Milan, I predicted that the odd player here might be tempted to start thinking he'd become a great player. We want to become a great team, but that means winning games like today's."

Reaction to Wolfsburg v Bayern:

Felix Magath: "We got at them from the start and spent most of our time in their half, but we failed to take our chances. After going a goal down, we never worked out how to cope with their robust defence. We always knew it would be tough, but we were still expecting a different outcome. In the second half, we switched play to the middle too prematurely to create chances."

Oliver Kahn: "We threw everything at them in the second half, Wolfsburg just had a couple of chances on the break. Overall, we weren't lively enough to get anything from the game. Straight after the match in Milan, I predicted that the odd player here might be tempted to start thinking he'd become a great player. We want to become a great team, but that means winning games like today's. That's the most difficult thing in football. We have to pull together even more. We have to understand that when you play for Bayern Munich, you have to give 120 percent every time."

Simon Jentzsch (VfL Wolfsburg): "We believed in ourselves. We knew Bayern had played very well in midweek, but that also meant they were tired and couldn't give it 100 percent."
