Lell and Görlitz poised to make comebacks

23.08.2006 Watching Christian Lell and Andreas Görlitz (pictured) on the training ground, you would think the pair were contesting a title-deciding showdown, as the youngsters sprint, put in crosses, shoot and argue over a hard-fought passing accuracy game. All the signs point to the long-term injury victims resuming the first-team programme in the near-distant future.

Lell should be first to shake off the daily grind of long-term rehab training. "They're taking the pins out next Monday," he informed fcbayern.de on Tuesday this week. The player is determined to rejoin the squad as soon as possible after that, perhaps even on the same day. The former Reds youth tore all the ligaments in his left shoulder while contesting a pre-season friendly in Linz on 23 July.

Twenty-two month lay-off for Görlitz

Görlitz' most recent appearance for the senior side is a lot longer ago than that. "It'll soon be two full years," he grimaced. In fact, the Germany right-back has been out for close on 22 months after tearing the cruciate ligament in his left knee on Champions League duty against Juventus in November 2004, the start of a demoralising sequence for the youngster which has seen him sustain damage to his kneecap, ankle and cartilage since then.

The 24-year-old has become thoroughly acquainted with the rehab programme supervised by specialist coach Oliver Schmidtlein. "I've been through the whole thing four times," he ruefully remarked, but he has not been as close to a genuine comeback for a very long time. He is hopeful of returning "in three to four weeks, provided everything runs according to plan. But you can never be sure."

I changed Goerlitz's status to 'fit' in the Injury List. He's basically played 3 matches for the reserves, with his last appearance lasting 79 minutes. He's not completely in form, but he's more or less fit now, and could potentially play for the first team.
