Post subject: Reaction to Bayern v Arminia Bielefeld Reply with quote

07.05.2008

Wednesday evening was a good time to be a Bayern fan: the freshly anointed champions comfortably defeated Arminia Bielefeld 2-0, before the club staged a rousing after-match party for the Allianz Arena faithful. “We wanted the crowd to have an entertaining evening and make sure we didn’t distort the competition in the Bundesliga – and we succeeded brilliantly,“ commented a smiling Uli Hoeneß.

Reaction to Bayern v Arminia Bielefeld:

Uli Hoeneß: ”We wanted the crowd to have an entertaining evening and make sure we didn’t distort the competition in the Bundesliga – and we succeeded brilliantly. I’m totally satisfied. Despite all the partying on Sunday, the team were totally up for it, and the players turned in a wonderful performance today.“

Ottmar Hitzfeld: ”It was a strange game, because there was nothing riding on it for us. We tried to retain possession, pass the ball along the ground and wait for our chances – and we certainly had plenty of those. Two-nil is a fair result.“

Michael Frontzeck (Bielefeld coach): “We deserved nothing from the game. We started well enough, we were smart and denied them space. The game turned on the incident after 26 minutes, we had two huge chances but Bayern broke upfield and made it 1-0. In the dressing room, we said we’d go for it in the second half, we came back out and promptly went 2-0 down. After that, it was always going to be very, very difficult against a team of Bayern’s quality.“

Rüdiger Kauf (Bielefeld captain): ”Bayern had us totally under control and we deserved to lose. We’re a point above the drop zone now, and we have a home game against Dortmund on Saturday. With our fans behind us, we’ll go for the three points.“
