| Post subject: Reaction to Bayern v Alemannia Aachen |

The carnival spirit evoked by the Oktoberfest passed Saturday's match at the Allianz Arena by to a certain extent, but coach Felix Magath was not unduly critical of his men following a sleeves-rolled-up victory over effervescent visitors Alemannia Aachen which sent Bayern to the top of the Bundesliga pile, at least temporarily. "We only woke up after conceding a goal," the boss reflected, although he felt his players had already mentally turned their attentions to the Champions League in midweek.
Reaction to Bayern v Alemannia Aachen
Felix Magath: "That was definitely nothing more than a routine victory today, it wasn't a festival display. We were guilty of over-confidence at the start and we didn't look like a team with nothing but winning in mind. We created too little in the first half and only woke up after conceding a goal. We played well after that and at the beginning of the second half, and we deserved the goal to put us 2-1 in front. Then we focused on the result, but I can understand us letting up, as we've got a tough European tie in midweek. But make no mistake, we're still a long way short of where we want to end up."
Michael Frontzeck (Aachen coach): "Let me pay tribute to my team for doing exactly what we set out to do. You can never be satisfied after a defeat. We've definitely played better than that. Our approach and attitude were good, and we stopped Bayern creating much from open play in the first half. But it all changed after half-time. We kept trying to turn it around right until the end, but we were playing one of the best teams in Europe today. Bearing that in mind, we gave a good account of ourselves."
Mark van Bommel: "You've got to be pleased about three points, but we're not doing enough with our ability, we're overdoing the tempo and the level of risk. It's sometimes better just to play the easy ball."
Daniel van Buyten: "Aachen were very good, but we had enough chances to have scored more goals. I reckon that rates as a tough match, but what mattered to us was winning. We've bounced back from last week's defeat and we're on track again."
Reiner Plaßhenrich (Aachen): "It basically went according to plan. We took the lead, but we couldn't hang on until half-time. That would have been good, as it might have made Bayern more nervous, but it didn't work out that way. I really can't say whether our "equaliser" was really offside."
Kristian Nicht (Aachen keeper): "I think we battled away, never gave up and played very, very well. Bayern weren't able to play their normal game at all. We'll come away with our confidence on a high."
