Post subject: Deisler and Görlitz resume training with reserves Reply with quote

21.09.2006

Andreas Görlitz and Sebastian Deisler are back playing football, something many Bayern fans will consider the best news to emerge from the club since the start of the season. Following long and wearisome lay-offs with injury, the star duo began working out with the second team a few days ago, preparing for a return to the senior squad in the near future.

Gerland impressed

"They're keeping up extremely well and getting stuck into their tackles. I have a very good feeling about both of them," seasoned reserve boss Hermann Gerland commented after casting an eye over his VIP guests. "I'm in great shape," both the players declared when asked about their physical fitness, betraying wholly understandable emotions of great relief.

Görlitz last appeared in the Bundesliga nearly two years ago. The right-back, capped twice by Germany soon after joining Bayern, tore a cruciate ligament while on Champions League duty against Juventus in November 2004, and has attempted to return on several occasions only to be thwarted by injury setbacks. The weights room and the medical unit at the Säbener Strasse have become almost a second home for him.

Deisler optimistic about future

"I'd just like to play football again without feeling pain," the player revealed, adding that he had no intention of putting himself under pressure. "We're taking it one step at a time," he explained, declining to name a target for a first-team comeback.

Deisler, who missed a second World Cup in a row after undergoing knee surgery by renowned specialist Dr Richard Steadman in Vail, Colorado in mid-March, echoed his team-mate's sentiments. "I'm free of problems now," he remarked, looking ahead to working out with the reserves until the middle of next week before resuming duty with the senior squad.

Rummenigge dampens expectations

"He's given as the impression of great stability, and I hope he's back in the squad soon. I'm sure he can help the team," Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told fcbayern.de. Despite the positive news, Rummenigge warned fans and the club not to expect too much from Deisler's imminent comeback. "He's been out for six months, so in the midst of the excitement, we'll have to be patient too. He will need a while to rediscover his best form."

Coach Felix Magath is hoping Deisler will return to contention "in October, or November at the latest." The player himself remained non-committal. "It's too early to predict when I'll be ready to appear in the Bundesliga again." However, it may not be too long, as Görlitz and Deisler returned to the dressing room with a cheery "see you soon!"

Yes. Deisler should be a first teamer, and Goerlitz could be a good sub for Sagnol if he manages to recapture his form before the injuries.
