Post subject: Beckenbauer set to stand for fifth term Reply with quote

19.09.2006

Franz Beckenbauer has indicated his desire to continue as FC Bayern Munich President for at least one more term of office. The 61-year-old, speaking at a sponsors' function in Nuremberg on Tuesday, confirmed his intention to seek re-election to the post at the club's AGM in mid-November,

His designated successor, current general manager Uli Hoeneß, would himself name the date when he wished to assume the prestigious position, the 'Kaiser' continued. "It's a good idea for the pair of us to wend our way through the football scene arm-in-arm for a while longer," he explained.

Beckenbauer, first elected to the top job at Germany's most successful club in 1994 and now coming to the end of his fourth term at the helm, repeated his intention to seek office in an international footballing position. "I can well imagine capitulating to the German Football Association's (DFB) entreaties and standing as Gerhard Mayer-Vorfelder's successor on the FIFA Executive Committee in January 2007," the 2006 World Cup Organising Committee boss declared. "That would give me the chance to achieve plenty on behalf of German and European football."

I think that Kahn may well take over from Hoeness as the general manager of Bayern.

Hah that would be nice, seeing as Hoeness doesn't do much.

wow, that's great news. The Kaiser is going to be at the helm of things. but to think that kahn should occupy that place, its too soon bcoz he is still playing for bayern.

Hi vaibhavi, welcome to the forum Smile

Kahn will retire in 2008, and it's understood that he'd have a new role within the club - either replacing Hoeness as general manager, or becoming a goalkeeping coach, or maybe even both.
