Asked if former Chelsea boss José Mourinho would fit the bill, the Kaiser was extremely positive. "Mourinho? Why not? He would have until summer to take a language course." Indeed, the Portuguese has himself previously expressed an interest in learning a new language - either German or Italian - but said he'd want some notice before starting the job to give himself time to adapt.

Bayern certainly fit the bill as the type of massive club Mourinho would be looking for, but Beckenbauer explained that the Portuguese is not the only person the club are looking at. "There are other equally good candidates. The initial shortlist will be drawn up by (chairman) Karlheinz Rummenigge and (sporting director) Uli Hoeneß. Then the board will take a vote."

Asked who those other candidates might be, Beckenbauer was more coy. "The only person I can rule out is myself."

Deffo! It would be tricky and expensive, but if doesn't a the Real job in the Summer or Schuster stays then maybe.

I would like to see Jose at Allianz Arena rather sooner than later, who knows if things do not go well in the next coming 4 to 6 league matches and we see Bayern shopping early and he can take over before the end of the season, so he can be settled in for the next one.

I have a solution for the language problem: Jose can bring Michael Ballack back to Bayern, all pros:

1. We get a world class midfielder,
2. Bayern is a better fit for Ballack, said by himself,
3. With his leadership, knowledge of English and German and prior experience working with Jose he will be the natural communicator.

Jose Mourinho would be a good choice to fill the vacant coaching job at Bayern Munich, Franz Beckenbauer said Friday.

But only if he learns German.

The Bayern Munich president said the ideal replacement for Ottmar Hitzfeld - who will step down at the end of the season - would be experienced, a polished tactician and German-speaking.

"Why not Mourinho? He could take a language course until the summer," Beckenbauer said. "We need a top guy."

The 44-year-old Mourinho, who left Chelsea in September, led FC Porto to the 2004 Champions League title and Chelsea to Premier League titles in 2005 and 2006.

Beckenbauer, who coached Germany to the 1990 World Cup title, said there were a lot of candidates for the job.

"The only one I can absolutely rule out is myself," he said. "My God, no."

Hitzfeld is one of Europe's most respected coaches after winning the Champions League title with Bayern in 2001 and Borussia Dortmund in 1997. He was upset by criticism from management in November, leading to his intended departure from the club

The comment about only if he learns German could hurt Bayern. They should be willing to talk to any coach whether or not they can speak German and if they find one who doesn't speak German then they need to hire that person. Because, in the end, the coach will learn the language. They should not make that statement up front because it might deter any possible candidates.

I like Mourinho, He's an interesting guy. His ego is the same size of Kahn but he gets results. However, many folks don't want him at Bayern because they say he's style of play is boring and it would not be attractive football. So, do folks want a team that wins or do they want attractive football?

Wanted to add that if Mourinho would go to La Liga then I can see him at Barcelona and not Real Madrid. Schuster has done a wonderful job at Real. The fans are happy, the management is happy, and the team is doing well, so why should he leave? Even if Bayern came knocking on his door I think he would turn them away because he was interested in Bayern last year but Bayern picked Hitzfeld. So,
