Bayern Munich goalkeeper Oliver Kahn needs elbow surgery and is expected to be out for up to five weeks.
Kahn aggravated the right-elbow injury that has bothered him for months while warming up for Saturday's Bundesliga game at Bayer Leverkusen.
The 38-year-old Bayern captain is in his final season.
Michael Rensing stepped in for Kahn and Bayern won the game 1-0 to open a four-point lead over Schalke.
Kahn will have surgery but the date still hasn't been determined, coach Ottmar Hitzfeld said Monday.
Bayern plays the second leg of its UEFA Cup first-round match at Belenenses, Portugal on Thursday and also could be without top striker Miroslav Klose, who has a painful right knee. Bayern won the first leg 1-0. |

| Well, that sucks but at least Rensing will get the chance we've all been waiting for. Better he gets a couple games now when the title isn't won yet rather than at the other end of the season when the pressure will presumably be off! |

| it true, it is his opportunity, but it isnt the form i would like for. I think we are under pressure in the match against belenenses, lets hope rensing will show his quality and win the match for us. |

| Quote: | | Oliver Kahn dropped by the Säbener Strasse for the first time since undergoing surgery in the USA. The club captain was still heavily bandaged on his right elbow, but Hitzfeld said the operation had been “optimal”. The keeper should be back in action by early November. |

hopefully Rensing has a clean sheet by then (or at least winning streak) |
