Hitzfeld coy on future
18:05 - 4th, Sep 2007

Bayern Munich coach Ottmar Hitzfeld has reiterated his stance not to consider signing a new long-term contract until next year.

The 58-year-old, who led Bayern to Champions League success in 2001, returned to the Allianz Arena towards the end of last season on a short-term contract following the sacking of Felix Magath.

Hitzfeld invested heavily in the transfer market during the summer and has guided the Bavarian giants to the top of the fledgling Bundesliga table.

But, despite an impressive start to the new campaign, the experienced tactician has vowed to take his time before deciding whether to remain at the helm.

"It all depends on my well-being," he said.

"Will my body take all this? How does much stress is the job still giving? 'These are all factors."

I'd love him to stay on, but health should always come before work, i'd hate to see him burn himself out, and besides there are plenty of good coaches that would love to manage Bayern

I would also love to see him stay just a little bit longer but I think he is really interested in the Swiss NT job. Perhaps Bayern can find a way to convince him that Bayern is where he belongs.

Hitzfeld set for new deal
Mon, 22 Oct

Bayern Munich boss Ottmar Hitzfeld is expected to agree a new contract during the Christmas break.

The 58-year-old has turned Bayern's fortunes around in his second spell at the club, a huge summer transfer outlay revamping an underachieving side and seeing them start this season in excellent form.

"I have every reason to believe that he will stay with us when we sit down together to talk in the Bundesliga winter break," general manager Uli Hoeness told the German TV station Premiere.

Hitzfeld had admitted last week that he was unsure about staying at the club, with a proposal to coach Switzerland interesting him.

"Franck Ribery was the best man on the field today," a not entirely happy Hitzfeld said after a 2-1 win over Bochum took them six points clear at the top of the Bundesliga.

"Thank God we had him."

"[Conceding] really annoyed me. I don't want to always have to go behind, but the way we reacted was very important."

I really do hope that he stays. I would love to hear the news that he resigned with Bayern.
