Bayern remain third in the early season table after a goalless draw at home to Bavarian neighbours Nuremberg, but the champions were left lamenting a string of missed chances after a match in which a win would have taken them to the top of the standings. Neverheless, Felix Magath was not an unhappy man afterwards after a stirring second-half display from his team.
Reaction to Bayern v Nuremberg:
Felix Magath: "It was just one of those days. We had any number of chances, but the ball didn't want to go in. But I'm not about to lose sleep over it. Nuremberg were more confident and solid at the start, but we gradually took control and then attacked with intent in the second half. That was something I very much wanted to see."
Hans Meyer (Nuremberg coach): "The draw just adds to the upbeat mood around the club at the moment. The good Lord was on our side from time to time in the second half. We allowed Bayern too many shots at goal. We always knew Bayern would pile on the pressure and cause us all sorts of problems."
Philipp Lahm: "We were too static at the start and missed too many tackles. We improved as the match went on, we created some good chances, and there were some good moves as well. Nuremberg more or less matched us, but it was important that we denied them clear-cut scoring opportunities."
Bastian Schweinsteiger: "We'd have won today if we'd taken our chances, but we just missed too often."
Markus Schroth (Nuremberg): "We were very good this afternoon and had a few chances, as Bayern did. It was basically evenly-matched. I think we gave a good account of ourselves and we can be highly satisfied with the point."
