Rummenigge: Hands Off Podolski!
Bayern Munich chairman has insisted they won't do business for Podolski, who scored three goals during the tournament in Austria and Switzerland.

"He is not for sale at all. Podolski is not leaving. And I use this press conference to transmit that to my Köln colleague. This position is definitive," Rummenigge declared.

Matthaus: Let Podolski decide his future

Postby Jorge on Tue Jul 08, 2008 8:54 pm

MUNICH, July 8 (Bundesliga) - Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthaus believes the club should not stand in Lukas Podolski's way if he has made up his mind to leave.

The striker is unhappy with his lack of first-team opportunities with the German champions and has been strongly linked with a return to former club Cologne.

Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and coach Jurgen Klinsmann, though, have stressed the 23-year-old will not be sold.

But Matthaus, who enjoyed 12 years at Bayern over two spells, feels Podolski should be allowed to decide his own future.

He told Munich-based newspaper tz: 'Lukas Podolski wants to play football. He could not do so in the last two years with Bayern.

'Only Klinsmann has a guaranteed starting place in his contract up until now - I don't assume that Podolski will also receive one.

'It is completely normal that Lukas has concerns. I am always of the opinion you should let the player himself decide - not advise them what would be better.

'Podolski has by now some experience. Cologne play in the first division, have ambition and are certainly a club where he will feel more security - because he will receive this warmth that is lacking in Munich.

'A young player, especially Podolski, needs this warmth.'

Podolski was restricted to substitute appearances for much of last season after losing his place up front to summer signings Miroslav Klose and Luca Toni.

He impressed at Euro 2008 in a left-sided role for Germany, but Frenchman Franck Ribery has that position sewn up at Bayern.

Matthaus added: 'It is certainly not an easy decision. Bayern are something special, but Lukas has noticed in the last year in Munich that he, regardless of what happens, does not get the action that he wants.'

No further squad changes

Postby degenha2 on Fri Jul 11, 2008 12:00 am

Podolski was still developing as a player, Klinsmann argued, “and I’m determined to bring him up to the next level.” The former world-class striker thus put an end to speculation regarding the 23-year-old’s future. “Lukas has two years to go on his contract with us, so there are no questions to be answered. I’ll go to great lengths to make sure Lukas feels happy at Bayern,” Klinsmann declared.

The Bayern coach also announced that the club would contest the coming season “with the squad as it stands today. Our plans are based on the players we have now, and we’re happy with this squad. We have fantastic quality, and in numerical terms, almost too many players.” However, Klinsmann did conclude with a proviso: “If something suddenly came up, which might lead to internal discussions with the board, we’d go ahead and do it.”

Seems that Sweet Lukas isn't going anywhere. Thank God because Klose is old and Toni is just a poacher. Sweet Lukas is our striker for the future.

P.s. Why was Clarence Seedorf touring the new performance centre?

I think it also had something to do with the Goal4Africa game at the Allianz this weekend, apparently Seedorf was there to get Bayern players for the game, namely Van Bommel, Ze, Van Buyten, and Butt. Asked for Klinsi's permission and everything. Though I'll admit, it'd be great if Seedorf decided he wanted to become the first to win the Champions League with 4 different teams after seeing the new Sabener Strasse!

RUMMENIGGE LAUGHS OFF PODOLSKI TALK

Postby MUTU on Tue Aug 26, 2008 6:19 pm

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has ridiculed Cologne president Wolfgang Overath for renewing his club's interest in Lukas Podolski.

Overath told the Welt am Sonntag newspaper that Podolski "will come back to Cologne at some stage" and said his club are ready to "fight and try to bring him back at any time that the transfer window is open".

But Rummenigge claims Overath is all talk and no action.

"I find his intentions very amusing," he told the Bild newspaper. "Apart from big announcements, nothing else has come yet.

"Cologne have never made any moves and it is particularly amusing when I keep hearing that it is FC Bayern who have to make the first move.

"We will not say: 'Dear Cologne, you can have Lukas Podolski from us', and that is 100 per cent certain."

Podolski was on the bench again at the weekend as Bayern drew 1-1 at Borussia Dortmund and, with several days of transfer activity left, the final word in the saga may not yet have been spoken.

The Germany striker appeared to have been convinced by new Bayern coach Jurgen Klinsmann that he figures prominently in his plans but, after seeing Luca Toni thrust back into the first team despite having trained only a handful of times all summer and Miroslav Klose keep his place despite not scoring for five months, he may once again be considering his options.

And his hometown club of Cologne would be the first to make a move, but apparently only if Bayern call them first. They have time until midnight on Sunday.

The media is going on a Bayern frenzy today. Podolski is now linked to a 12.5 million euro transfer to Besiktas in Turkey.

Postby fcb 4eva on Tue Sep 02, 2008 3:27 pm

is anyone else as fed up with this guy as I am, he's done nothign but whinge since he's arrived, did he seriously expect to just walk straight into the first team??

Also apparently he's quoted as saying he's just as good a talent as the likes of Rooney, Messi etc? is this guy for real..start performing on the pitch then and maybe you will get picked more often, he hardly ever justifys a starting birth when given his chance and then spends all the time moaning about it.

POLDI OUT! GOMEZ IN :D
